HEMEN TEAK SAROD
Vintage quality 19 years old fully retrofitted
A beautiful
instrument that has been owned by a local friend. I
first saw it about 10 years ago. It has not been
played much and the owner was quite talented at
engineering things. The grommets have all been
retrofitted as you can see, the pegs have been
treated which makes this instrument easy to tune and
much more stable than you'd get new. All screws and
hardware have been replaced by plated and brass
screws. The main body has been french polished.
The wood is
burmese teak taken from an old building, 200 years
old according to Hemen. The construction is
considered to be one-piece although the headstock
past the joint has been joined together above the
neck joint which could technically be two-piece.
Teak instruments correctly built are generally
considered to produce a sound that has more depth
once aged and played in. The tone of this instrument
does not disappoint given its age and near perfect
condition.
This is an Ali Akbar style sarod which Hemen Sen was most famous
for making. It is a large instrument and originally
was shipped in a crate with no hard case. It comes
with a padded gig bag made for it, 2 jaba (picks),
and extra grommets. It is an instrument suitable for
the most discriminating musician and deserves to be
played. All sales final on this instrument, please
email us with any
questions.
