RA sitarmaker Kharaj Pancham 8 main string Concert Sitar
Kharaj/gandhar pancham hybrid.
Made from aged mahogany and gourds from
Maharashtra. Has the 7 string layout of a kharaj
pancham (Ravi Shankar style) and an added gandar
string. This design was first conceived by Nikhil
Banerjee who used it briefly and is popular with
some people, definitely a full sound. Features natural material for all
fittings and ebony bridges. Hemraj carvings on
the tumba and gulu, Multi slot chikari post and lack
horn fittings for the tar gahan with the carved
ravens as originally conceived by Tony Karasek. A
well thought out design for a sitar, even the langot
is a little different and we love the cap they put
on the top of the neck. A string hook will be
installed per your request which essentially gives
you a sitar that can be played in either popular
style! This sitar has been
air shipped (as are all of our instruments) to
preserve its quality.
SOLD OUT.

RA Sitarmaker is a shop in Miraj India
that has been making instruments for
generations. All parts of the instrument are
made within the shop unlike almost all other
makers in India. Miraj sitars feature thinner
tablis (soundboard) that are more of a rounded
shape and known for a booming ready to go sound
right from the beginning. RA Sitarmaker has made
sitars under 2 other names in the past, Karasek
Sound and Sugita.
