Mohan Lal Sitar
Half
decoration Benares style sitar by Mohan Lal Sharma
of Patna.
Not too many people know about Mohan Lal
but his sitars are favored by many of the musicians
in Varanasi whose sitars often are made without the
top tumba ~ gourds. We've had a hard time getting
them but found this very decent playable instrument
on the last trip and so didn't hesitate. More may be
coming but it's still up in the air unless I get
back there soon (always a possibility)
This sitar is darker colored, has a camel
bone bridge and traditional round eyelets for the
sympathetic strings. Spiral main pegs and plain
sympathetic pegs, it is strung in the Kharaj Pancham
~ Ravi Shankar style. Has a nice open tone and great
action with a 13 1/2 inch tabli. Perfect for a serious player on a budget or
any other player for that matter. Hand picked by us.
Comes with a no frills black rexine case or you can
upgrade to a fiberglass case as noted below.
$175 extra for fiberglass case upgrade..
